Garden centers and plant nurseries sell annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees and houseplants, along with soil, fertilizer, pots and tools. Independent nurseries usually grow part of their own stock and carry varieties suited to the local climate, while big-box garden departments compete on price for common plants. Plant shops focus on houseplants, succulents and orchids, often with repotting help. Greenhouses and growers sell seedlings and bedding plants in spring, and many offer wholesale prices to landscapers. Landscape designers plan planting beds, patios and irrigation, and some garden centers offer design and installation services as well.

Kalamazoo is in Michigan, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Kalamazoo follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

My journey with Mason jar plant shop started a year ago. I was on a Hoya group and someone said that Mason Jar had a good selection of Hoyas. I reached out to the company and found a mother/daughter owned company. With a great story behind their company name. The owners have been super helpful with plant suggestions and plant care. They also stand behind their business and care for their customers. Please give Mason Jar plant shop your business if you are local or not. You will not be disappointed.

Prices have increased significantly. The price tag will indicate an additional $4 or more compared to the previous price. Update: changed my review due to their response back, I will not be coming back especially if you can’t handle any negative reviews, it’s my right. you wanted an example of the prices but look you’re not allowed to take photos! lol.

Super cute locally owned plant shop. The owner helped me replant a succulent I had neglected. There is a terrarium bar with lots of plant and pebble options, would make a great gift for anyone. Prices were fair, about what I’ve paid at bigger chains. Highly recommend checking Mason Jar out!

For my birthday, I went here with my sisters. We did the terrarium- Jill was very helpful with helping us create one! It was relaxing to make one of these (pictured glass bowl, I did not take an after picture.) Not only is there plant workshops here, but there is also many plants you can buy! Jill was very knowledgeable about what plants work best to take home and thrive in certain environments ( specifically, cat and kid friendly.) This small business is beautiful, has a great selection and is a great idea for anyone looking for something new to try! I recommend anyone to create a terrarium- it’s great for all ages, and to buy plants here! I would definitely be back again! Thanks again Jill for all of your help and horticultural expertise!

I’ve been to quite a few greenhouses and plant shops in the Michigan/Indiana/Ohio area. If you’re looking for rare/harder-to-find houseplants, you MUST check out Mason Jar Plant Shop in Kalamazoo. The selection is fantastic and the plants are so healthy! Prices are very, very reasonable for the size and condition offered. I didn’t see a single “sad” looking plant in the entire shop, which is rare. The very friendly person that rang us up (I’m assuming this was the owner/manager)was super knowledgeable. I can’t say enough good things about this shop. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed. 🙌🏻
